FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW WORLDS PROJECT INCORPORATES IN THE EU AND THE US

Brussels, Belgium, 4th October 2006: On 4th October 2006, a new non-profit organisation was incorporated in Draper, Utah, and Brussels, Belgium to respond to the growing needs of educators to find innovative ways to integrate the Internet effectively into their classrooms. New Worlds Project is a specialist in game building and learning management. It developed the New Worlds Role Playing Game (RPG) - a well-regarded, original sci-fi setting that is home to hundreds of artists. The RPG relies on play-by-post, a method that uses Internet forum technology to enable collaborative story-writing. Having tried and tested the learning environment with participant volunteers across the globe, New Worlds Project now aspires to work with the education sector to facilitate creative writing skills with students of all ages.

Board of Directors co-chairs Alex Perry and Glenn D. Gregory welcomed news of the incorporation, “This is a historic first step for New Worlds Project, and for play-by-post communities overall. We are taking what was a niche passion, and mainstreaming it for use in education. Teachers will benefit from the environment created by play-by-post. A truly collaborative, web-based platform created for fun will become a useful instrument for teachers involved in developing curriculum-based studies.”

New Worlds Project plans to offer its services at cost-effective prices. A survey carried out in early 2006 highlighted that more than 60% of educators were interested in the planned services. It also highlighted that over half of educators were looking for cost-effective solutions that could be deployed within a single classroom environment.

This survey has enabled the preparation of a pilot programme; New Worlds Project is in negotiation with a number of schools and universities in the Benelux, the UK, and the US to test the method. “There is a lot of interest in New Worlds Project. The offer is well timed with schools’ experimentations with new eLearning methods. Our method is interesting because it will help them meet the challenges of the knowledge society,” Acting Executive Director Kim Leonard Smouter explained.
